How it works!

​​ 1.   What does the program do?

  1. Provide funds for repairs to Senior Veterans homes and living conditions.
  2. Funds shall be provided to other non-profit groups such as County Councils on Aging, etc. for use in these repairs.

2.   What are the requirements for the Senior Veteran to qualify.​

  1. Senior Veteran must be the homeowner and occupy the house.
  2. Senior Veteran must be unable to make repair himself or qualify for loan to a commercial bank or other institution.
  3. Senior Veteran must earn less than $29,524 as a single Veteran or $39,825 for a Veteran and their spouse.
  4. Senior Veteran must submit DD214 to the Non-profit organization for review and be honorably discharged.   DD214 shall notbe copied and shall be returned to the Senior Veteran

3.  How may funds be used?

  1. Funds may be used to repair, improve or modernize homes or remove health and safety hazards,
  2. Funds may be used to replace appliances that are no longer functioning to include, stove, refrigerator, air conditioning, etc.

4.  What are other requirements imposed by CVSG?

  1. Any repairs to the structural integrity of the Senior Veterans home, HVAC, electrical and plumbing must be performed by a licensed contractor.
  2. Any contractor performing work for a Senior Veteran must possess a North Carolina General Contractor license and have 5 years’ experience in home construction.
  3. Any contractor performing work for a Senior Veteran must have applied for a received an appropriate building permit.
  4. A retainage in the amount of 10% shall be retained by the County Council on Aging or other participating non-profit until final inspection and approval by the local building inspector.

5.  Why does Carolina Senior Veterans Support Group do this for Senior Veterans?

  1. Helping Senior Veterans stay in their own home and keep it in good shape helps Senior Veteran families and the communities in which they live.  
  2. Home ownership helps Senior Veteran families build savings over time.   It strengthens communities and helps businesses that support the local economy.
  • Carolina Veteran Support Group works with those organizations who are registered with the IRS as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
